Vegan-friendly BBQ

By Skinny Bakery | 26 Jun 2018 | RECIPES

BBQ season is officially in full-swing (wahoo!) but for the vegans amongst us this can be a bittersweet time.

Not anymore!

Here at The Skinny Bakery we have collected 6 vegan-friendly BBQ recipes (from various blogs and articles) so that you veganista’s don’t have to miss out on the sizzling fun!

Whether you’re celebrating the World Cup with friends or just having a quiet family BBQ in, these mouthwatering recipes are sure to go down a treat this summer…. even non-vegan, meat-eating carnivores will want in!

All recipes contain (at least) 4 servings.

Tofu Vegetable Kebabs with Peanut Sauce

We very recently published a chicken skewer recipe in our ‘Keep Calm & Picnic On’ post, but now we have given skewers a vegan update with Cathy Elton’s (What Would Cathy Eat?) peanut butter marinated tofu and veg kebabs.

Check them out, they’re delish!

Smoky mushroom and walnut-stuffed Portobello mushrooms

Vegan or not, you can never go wrong with a stuffed mushroom fresh from the barbie.

These walnut-stuffed portobello mushrooms, taken from Olive magazine, can be enjoyed on their own, or as a burger alternative by wedging them in between a bun!

Black bean burgers with mango habanero cream

Another burger alternative! These black bean burgers by Sophia (from Veggie’s don’t bite) come with a creamy, mango habanero sauce which gives the veggie burgers a refreshing and tangy twist and makes them perfect for the (fingers-crossed🤞) hot British summer.

It’s an American recipe, but mango habanero salsa can be found online at Ocado and Tesco.

Seitan BBQ ribs

Who said that going vegan meant going without BBQ ribs?!

Julie (from the blog Baked In) has managed to conjure up meat-free, vegan-friendly BBQ ribs by replacing pork with seitan; a meat-substitute made of wheat gluten.

Despite the lack of a bone, we’re sure that no-one will notice (or care) that these ribs aren’t the “real” thing!

5. Potato salad (without the mayo!)

Is a BBQ even a BBQ if there isn’t a potato salad lingering around?

Megan Gilmore (of the blog Detoxinista) has cultivated a mayonnaise-free potato salad for us by replacing creamy mayo with a creamy avocado mixture.

This potato salad may not look entirely the same with its green finish, but it’s just as tasty as the original and super simple!

Pomegranate Cauliflower Couscous Salad

Buffy Ellen’s (Be Good Organics) pomegranate, cauliflower and couscous salad spices up the obligatory BBQ salad with its bold colours and flavours, making it a welcome addition to any BBQ banquet!
